...My writing progress made in term 2…

During term 2 we have been focusing on our narrative writing. I think my narrative writing skills have improved a lot, as my writing has now hit at level 5 and I’m feeling really proud of myself.

The things that have helped me to progress in my writing are…

Firstly the Chromebook
The Chromebook has helped my writing to be tidier and more professional.

The Read & Write app
The Read & Write app has helped me to know where I have made a mistake or if my story makes sense.

My working buddies comments have made me want to strive to make my stories better. Reading other people’s stories have made me come up with ideas and different words that could fit into my stories and help me make my stories more interesting.

The things that have slowed me down in my writing are…
Taking ages to come up with a new story with good events.
Talking to others and not starting my writing straight away.
Sometimes having to go back to my writing and doing the punctuation correctly and making my stories readable.

Now I know what things have been slowing me down in my writing, I want to now improve my writing by having nothing slowing my writing down and writing more stories that everyone will enjoy and that are more interesting.

...How to make a patu…

Equipment Requirements:
  • A piece of pallet ( a piece of wood any size, but thick is better )
  • A saw
  • Crayon (any colour)
  • A bandsaw
  • A Chisel
  • A mallet ( if you're making a patu as a hook)
  • A drill ( to drill a hole at the bottom of the Patu)
  • 3 sizes of rasp file
  • A sanding wheel
  • Vice (to hold the patu in so that it will be easier to work on)
  • Flax ( to be tied in the hole at the bottom of the Patu)
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Paint brush and paint ( to draw the designs on the patu)

...Instructions…

* Cut the pallet (a piece of wood) with your hand saw

* Design your Patu on the wood with your crayon

* Cut out the design with the bandsaw carefully, when you’re finished cutting out the design get ready to use your chisel.

* Put your design into the Vice (a vice is something that holds up the design) make sure it’s tight and secure in the vice

* Chisel your way round the sides of the wood. When the sides are kind of smooth use the sanding wheel.

* Shape the patu, by moving the patu where you want to shape it with the sanding wheel. Make sure when you’re using the sanding wheel don’t make little ripples in the patu because it will be harder for you to work on. If you do make ripples in the patu use the sandpaper to get them out.

* Drill carefully at the bottom of your patu and drill until the hole is gone right through. The bottom part of your patu it where you hold it

* Now you have finished making your patu, create designs on your patu. Outline your patu on a piece of paper and draw with your pencil an effective design that best represents your patu and your whakapapa.

* Paint your design onto your patu, leave to dry.

* Say a karakia that is suitable for cutting flax. Plait three pieces of flax together and thread into the hole at the end of your patu.

You now have your Patu!!!

My narrative story

...The battle of the Crews…

Princess Sunshine is what you can call me, I'm part of the Clear Skies crew. There is my dad King Cloudy, my mum Queen Rainbow and me, Princess Sunshine, We all have powers... well weather powers.

My power is too bring out the sun to brighten the sky, my mum’s power is to make the sky pretty with rainbows and finally my dad, his power is to bring out the white clouds to top off the sky. We’re practically weather gods!!!

As you can see we fight bad weather and we try to keep everyone away from our enemies, the storm crew. They're always making up plans to ruin everything in the Valley of Matawaia.

In their crew there is Evil Prince Rain, the person who floods the valley. There is also Evil Queen Ice the person who freezes, everything in the valley and finally King Windy, the person who blows down on all the nature in the valley. They are real trouble makers.

There is one story I really have to tell you about and that story is when the storm crew was finally delt with.

Well anyway one day the alarm went off “BEE DOOOrr BEE DOOOrr” Oh no that’s the evil detector alarm. The storm crew is ruining the weather in the Valley of Matawaia.

“It’s time to take over evil,” I say.

“Get into your positions, Clear Skies crew,” dad says.

“Off we go,” says mum.

So we shot down to the valley of Matawaia to take over the evil storm crew.

The skies were grey, the valley was freezing, it was starting to flood in the Valley of Matawaia and all the trees were blown down.

“It’s time to make everything right” I yell. I use my powers to bring out the sun and the sky starts to brighten. Dad brings out the white clouds and the sky starts to turn blue. Mum pulls out the final touch of a rainbow and the weather starts to calm down.

“All our Hard work for nothing!”  the Storm Crew yelled.

“No! That work wasn't hard work! Your work has ruined everything that there is, in the Valley of Matawaia” our crew says. So the storm crew sigh and fly back to their kingdom.

A couple of weeks later The storm crew thought to come up with the ultimate plan, to take over the Valley of Matawaia.

“I’m sick of getting defeated from the clear skies crew” sobbed Prince Rain

“Never mind son, we will come up with ‘the’ most ultimate plan we've ever made MUAHAHAHA!!!” said King Windy and Queen Ice with an evil glare in their eyes.

They built the ultimate weather ruining machine, which was built with, all three powers of the Storm Crew, but 100 times worse. This was the ultimate weather ruining machine.

“woohoo! Our mission of building this machine is finally completed. The weather in the Valley of Matawaia will be the worst  it has ever been!” yelled King Windy

“MUAHAHAHA MUAHAHAHA MUAHAHAHA!!!” They all yelled in an evil tone.

Meanwhile back at home, I could hear the evil laughter beaming from the Storm Crews Kingdom, my suspicion grew a lot bigger, so I zoomed down to the storm crews kingdom and snuck down to their evil lab.

“Well now, our next mission is to take this machine to the Valley of Matawaia and destroy the weather forever” King Windy yelled with pride.

I heard what the plan was and I knew that there was something fishy going on. So I raced back to our Kingdom and told the crew what was going on.

Mum!... Dad!... I mean… King Windy and Queen Rainbow, I’ve got a problem. I kind of went down to the storm crews lab and was listening to their plan but I found out that they had made a ultimate weather ruining machine and their taking it down to the valley of Matawaia!!! I said feeling very proud of myself

“Good job Princess Sunshine but we just have to be prepared and try to at least destroy that machine” says Queen Rainbow.

We made a Clear skies weather machine and flew it down to where the storm crew had their machine. We hid as they turned on their machine and waited for the right time.

“ Now the weather will never be the same” says Prince Rain with an evil chuckle.

We turned on our machine and battled it out, the two rays of the machine powers were going crazy and then it happened. The storm crews machine blew up right in front of their eyes and the storm crew suddenly vanished. We jumped up and down in excitement as we knew we had defeated the Storm Crew forever.

Ever since then the weather has been awesome in the Valley of Matawaia, we haven’t seen the storm crew at all. We will never know what actually happened to the Storm Crew but we know this... ‘Good always triumphs over evil.’

THE END...

My fracture fairy tale

12.05.14

Fractured fairy tale
WALT:recraft a traditional fairy tale by changing characters, settings, main events and ideas but still making sure that the bone structure of the fairy tale can be recognised.

Characters: Mum, Little red sparkle toes, Nanny Tickles, Homeless wolf, Rich man

Little Red Sparkle Toes
Twice upon a week at the left corner of a poor town, a generous little girl would stay with her mother in a tiny little shed. This little girl would always wear her special red shoes which had sparkles that glistened when ever she would help others, she was known as Little Red Sparkle Toes.

Twice a week, Little Red Sparkle Toe’s mother gave her a bowl full of food to take to the homeless wolf at the right hand corner, of the poor street in town. Before she left, her mother would always say, “Don’t talk to old people.”

One Day,  Little Red Sparkle Toes set off to feed the homeless wolf, her shoes sparkled brighter every time she got closer towards the wolf, but on her way she met an old woman known as Nanny Tickles. Nanny Tickles would always scab food off others.

“Hello my deary,” squawked Nanny Tickles.

“Hello,” Little Red Sparkle Toes quietly whispered.

“Where are you going with all that food,” Nanny Tickles said as she licked her lips.

“On the right hand corner of the poor street in town. I'm going to feed the poor homeless wolf.” said Little Red Sparkle Toes, who had obviously forgotten the warning that her mother told her.

Nanny Tickles, who wanted that food, took a shortcut and ran ahead to the right hand corner of the poor street in town. When she got there, she snuck up to homeless wolf cut and it’s ears off, chopped it’s nose off stuck the wolfs body parts on her. Then she tied the wolf to a tree in the backyard. Nanny Tickles lay in the wolfs box waiting for Little Red Sparkle Toes to arrive.

When Little Red Sparkle Toes arrived she stood at the wolfs box and stared at Nanny Tickles and said, “Homeless wolf you have more than two ears.”

“All the better to hear you with,” replied Nanny Tickles.

“And what small eyes you have” said Little Red Sparkle Toes.

“All the better to see you from a far distance,” replied Nanny Tickles.

“Wolf, what small paws you have,” said Little Red Sparkle Toes.

“All the better to steal your food!” yelled Nanny Tickles as she was taking the wolfs body parts off and chasing Little Red Sparkle Toes around the wolf’s box.

A rich man who also visits the poor people, heard Little Red Sparkle Toes. He drove his limousine towards the screaming of Little Red Sparkle Toes. When he got there he saw Nanny Tickles chasing Little Red Sparkle Toes and he ran Nanny Tickles over with his limousine.

Little Red Sparkle Toes and the rich man found the homeless wolf behind the tree, picked up the wolfs body parts and sewed them back onto the wolf. They also ate the rest of the homeless wolf’s food to celebrate the homeless wolf’s release. - The End.
